Embolotherapy has become a central part of daily Interventional Radiology work. Embolization indications have substantially increased over the last decade and continue to do so. Fibroid embolization, trauma and GI-hemorrhage are only a few areas manifesting this fast increase. Additionally, treatment of vascular malformations is fully dependent on embolization techniques. Oncology treatment with drug-eluting and target-specific beads is another fast-growing field of embolization indication.
Last year two conferences dedicated their entire programme to Embolization. GEST 2008 in Barcelona/ES with over 900 participants and the 1st European Conference on Embolotherapy ET 2008 in Florence/IT with over 1,300 delegates. For 2009 the GEST organisers and the CIRSE Foundation have joined forces and one single event dedicated exclusively to Embolization will take place from April 15 to 18, 2009 in Paris, France.
