Environmental Policy

Summary

Our business activities have an impact on the environment and we strive to carry these out in a socially and environmentally responsible manner. We proactively seek ways to reduce any adverse impact upon our surroundings through waste reduction & recycling schemes and energy efficiency initiatives.

Organisation and Responsibility

The Company’s Health, Safety and Environmental Committee (the “Committee”) is responsible for implementing the Company’s policy on environmental issues, monitoring environmental performance and reviewing environmental initiatives. The Policy is reviewed regularly and new goals set as applicable and where their progress can be seen to be tracked over a period of time. The Chief Executive is the Board member with responsibility for environmental matters and the Committee reports directly to him. The plc Board receives a full report from the Committee annually.

Communication

Environmental performance is reported to shareholders in the Annual Report, to agencies such as EIRIS where applicable, and to staff through internal communication channels, such as induction, regular internal briefings, and through notice boards. The Committee is heedful of the need to raise awareness of environmental matters and our employees are encouraged to consider environmental issues in their day-to-day activities.

Environmental Performance

The Company monitors its usage of gas and electricity and evaluates opportunities to reduce the Company’s carbon footprint and utility costs.

Waste generation is monitored and consideration is given to the use of recycling schemes to lessen the environmental impact of this waste. The Company recycles waste paper and card, plastic cups, toner cartridges, mobile telephones and aluminium cans and makes use of recycled materials. We consider methods of increasing the amount of waste that is recycled. Risk assessments are conducted for all controlled procedures and the possible impact upon the environment is considered as part of this assessment.

The Company is committed to continual improvement and undertakes environmental and energy audits as tools to aid environmental performance.
